Trusts are not only for the wealthy.

Many people erroneously believe that trusts are only beneficial when they have a large estate. At the offices of Llorens and Associates, P.C., we understand that a trust may be the most beneficial way to structure your estate plan, regardless of your net worth. We will explain the benefits of a trust and compare and contrast the different estate planning tools, including wills, powers of attorney, and other strategies.

Among the trusts we can prepare for you are:

Revocable trusts: These trusts can be changed or revoked by the grantor at any time. Because you retain control of the money in the trust, it may still be considered part of the total value of your estate for tax purposes, upon your death.

Irrevocable trusts: An irrevocable trust cannot be changed or revoked by the grantor. You give up control of the assets to the trustee, who distributes the assets according to the terms you established.

Living trusts: In effect, you are both the grantor and the trustee. You retain control of the assets in the trust, and you set up a distribution plan for yourself as beneficiary.

Insurance Trust:  Allows you to exclude insurance proceeds from the value of your estate thereby decreasing tax liability.

Charitable Remainder Trust: Transfer assets to a charity and retain an income stream during your and your spouse’s lifetime

Spendthrift Trust:  Control when your trust beneficiary can use or spend the money from the trust

Children’s trust:  Allows income to be attributable to lower children’s tax brackets while leaving the use and control to more responsible parties.

Generation-skipping trusts: You can set up a trust for the benefits of your grandchildren upon your death.

Charitable lead trust: This allows you to set up a trust that generates income for the benefit of a designated nonprofit organization for a designated length of time.
